P. van der Wegen Gears produces internal and external gears for rail applications including tram bogie drives, metro drive units, and mainline railway gearboxes. Each component is produced and inspected to the accuracy class and documentation standard required by the client.
Internal gears for bogie drives
Internal gears for tram and metro bogie applications require tight tooth profile tolerances, specific material properties, and full NDT certification. We produce internal gears up to 6 meters in diameter using our generating method and single index milling, with finish grinding to the required DIN or AGMA accuracy class. NDT inspection is performed in-house by our certified inspectors.
External gears and pinions for traction units
Pinions and external gears for rail traction applications are produced in high-tensile alloy steel forgings, case hardened and finish ground to the specified accuracy class. We work directly from client drawings or develop the gear geometry in collaboration with the drive system engineer.
Documentation and traceability
Rail sector clients require extensive documentation including material certificates, heat treatment records, dimensional inspection reports, and NDT certificates. Our quality management system is structured to support these requirements as part of our standard delivery package.
