Press construction

High-load pinions and gearboxes engineered for the continuous duty cycles and peak torque demands of industrial press drives.

Gear solutions for industrial press construction

Industrial presses are among the most mechanically loaded machines in any production environment. Main drive gears and pinions must handle extreme peak torques during forming operations while maintaining dimensional stability and accuracy over a long service life. Gear failure in a press drive means unplanned downtime and costly repair, making quality and reliability the primary requirements.

P. van der Wegen Gears has a long track record of supplying precision pinions, gears, and gearboxes to press manufacturers and end users across Europe and internationally.

Pinions for press main drives

The main drive pinion in a mechanical press is one of the most heavily loaded components in the machine. We produce hardened and ground pinions in high-tensile alloy steel forgings, with tooth accuracy classes and surface finishes matched to the specific press design. Heat treatment is selected based on the load conditions and required service life.

Eccentric and crankshaft gears

Press drives often include eccentric shaft gears and crankshaft components that require very tight dimensional tolerances and high tooth accuracy. We produce these using our CNC gear grinding equipment, with full flank topography measurement to verify the finished result.

Complete gearbox assemblies

For press manufacturers requiring a complete drive solution, we supply gearbox assemblies with all internal gear pairs produced in-house. Each assembly is documented with full engineering drawings, parts lists, and an instruction manual as part of our standard delivery package.

Quality and documentation

All press drive components leave our facility with full dimensional documentation, material certificates, and where required NDT inspection reports. Our ISO 9001:2015 certified quality system ensures full traceability from raw material to finished component.
