The cement industry

Girth gears and drive systems for rotary kilns and mills in cement production, where size, load capacity, and uptime are non-negotiable.

Girth gears and drive systems for the cement industry

Cement production relies on rotary kilns and mills that run continuously under high load. The gear drives in these installations must deliver consistent performance over years of operation with minimal maintenance intervention. Size, load capacity, and uptime are the defining requirements, and there is very little margin for error.

P. van der Wegen Gears has extensive experience supplying large girth gears and drive components to cement producers across Europe and internationally. Our fabricated girth gear process is particularly well suited to the size range and duty cycles of cement kiln and mill applications.

Kiln girth gears

Rotary kilns in cement production require large external ring gears that can sustain continuous torque at low speed over long service periods. We produce kiln girth gears using our fabricated welding process or from high-quality alloy castings, depending on the diameter and material specification. All girth gears are finish machined and ground to the required accuracy class, with full NDT inspection and dimensional documentation before delivery.

Mill gears for cement grinding

Cement grinding mills, including ball mills and vertical roller mills, require large external or internal gears and matching pinions. We produce these to the load and accuracy specifications provided by the mill manufacturer or end user, with our engineering team available to support the technical specification where required.

Replacement gears for existing installations

We have supplied replacement girth gears and pinions for existing kiln and mill installations where the original manufacturer is no longer active or where delivery lead times from the OEM are not acceptable. We reverse engineer the tooth geometry and housing interface from drawings or measurements of the existing installation.
